nature + health + research + practice.
OUR GOAL: To enhance health and healing through nature.
The Healing Power of Nature
The Center for Health & Nature is a collaborative research and education center focused on understanding the relationship between nature and human health.
We aim to advance research, education, and real-world solutions that harness nature's role in human health. We bring together expertise across healthcare, science, design, conservation, and community health to translate evidence into healthier people and places.
For decades, hospital environments were a reflection of strict clinical utility: stark, cold and sterile. Everywhere from lobbies to corridors to patient rooms reinforced the understanding that you were there to be examined, to be tested. Consistent reminders that you were sick. Recently, though, we have begun to understand that medical care is more effective in environments that promote healing. That we can develop evidence-based, medically sound methods for patients to benefit from something that we all intuitively know; connecting with nature is good for us.
As leaders in medical innovation, conservation, research, and education, Houston Methodist, Texan by Nature, and Texas A&M University are pioneering the use of nature as an innovative health care delivery system by establishing the Center for Health & Nature.
HOW WE WORK
Generating evidence to better understand how natural and built environments shape human health.
Moving research beyond publication by developing tools, programs, and approaches that can be applied in healthcare and communities.
Bringing together healthcare, academia, conservation, design, and community expertise to address complex health and environmental challenges.
